Goldfinch, by Thomas D. Jones4/29/2023 Like yellow jacket throbbing for nectar
checkered yellow and black against the huge brown eye, home of the sun in orbit, gold crest mashing the seeds with its beak, eyes averted between meal and my presence watching from the window as it flutters away, jolts the sunflower back to position, like a yellow god born of the sun hurling and curling through fabric of space, taking back to its young the golden seed to devour in the depths of their bellies, to grow out from the center once more.
